CALICO Day
Care Center
The Collaborative Agencies
for Learning and Innovative Childhood Options
(CALICO) Day Care Center is a one of a kind
facility that offers children of all abilities
the opportunity to begin their educational
experience while learning about human differences.
This integrated center
encourages learning through play in developmentally
appropriate classrooms and outdoor play
activities. CALICO was created in 1995 as
a collaboration between Hattie Larlham and
the County of Summit DD Board and Children's
Hospital Medical Center of Akron.
Staff members at CALICO
are trained to care for children of all
abilities. Staffing ratios meet or exceed
Ohio Department of Education requirements
with one certified instructor and two certified
assistants for every 12 students (six children
with disabilities and six typically developing
children).
Services are available
to Summit County residents and fees are
based on full or partial day attendance.
Some families may be eligible for services
based on a sliding-fee scale. If a child
has special needs, transportation can be
provided for an additional cost. Eligible
children may also receive nursing services,
occupational, physical, speech and language
therapy, case management and service coordination.
