Sensory Walk
and Adaptive Playground
On a warm day, a favorite
spot on the grounds of Hattie Larlham is
the sensory walk and adaptive playground.
This beautifully landscaped area provides
residents and their families an opportunity
to enjoy the outdoors together.
This area was designed
to bring together the individuals at Hattie
Larlham with typically developing children.
The playground features multi-sensory and
adaptive equipment as well as typical playground
toys such as slides and swings. Features,
such as shady overhangs and wheelchair ramps,
are included to seamlessly blend the abilities
of all children.
The garden portion of
this area brings nature to life. Raised
grass beds give individuals a chance to
lay on the ground with ease. A butterfly
garden not only attracts wildlife, it provides
a variety of stimulating scents and colors.
Visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds
of nature through the gazebo's indoor sound
system that amplifies the sounds of the
birds outside eating from feeders.
The area also features
play stations including musical and water
portions and bumpy walkways that stimulate
walking outdoors. Adjacent to the playground
is an area that is camper-ready with water
hookup and a fire pit, perfect for families
who like an extended visit with their loved
one.
