Recreation
Programs
Hattie Larlham recognizes
the need for fun and socialization in each
individual’s life. The recreation
department fulfills this need by organizing
activities and field trips throughout the
year.
Each individual at the
Hattie Larlham
Center for Children with Disabilities
has an opportunity to attend a variety of
field trips. These trips are not only fun
for the individuals, but they also promote
community integration. Examples of field
trips taken by individuals include: Cleveland
Zoo, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, Playhouse
Square, professional sporting events and
museums.
In addition to field trips,
the recreation department also plans activities
at the Hattie Larlham Center for Children
with Disabilities. Recreation staff work
with community groups and volunteers to
provide entertainment, arts and crafts and
sports activities. Each activity is adapted
so that each individual as an opportunity
to participate.
There is always something
going on at the Hattie Larlham Center for
Children with Disabilities. The facility
has a number of excellent ammenities that
allow people with and without disabilities
or mobility difficulties play and interact
with family, friends, volunteers and staff.
These ammenities include the outdoor wheelchair
accessible NaturAll
sensory walk and adaptive playground,
the aquatic room
and the multi-sensory
room. Families are also encouraged to
take advantage of the family
respite suite, where families can stay
to be close to their child or sibling with
a disability.
One of the larger recreation
programs at Hattie Larlham is an integrated
summer day camp called Camp
Connect.
Recreation also holds
several events throughout the year for individuals
including holiday parties and an annual
Prom formal dance. |
