Art showing at the Hattie Larlham Center
for Excellence
(MANTUA, Ohio)
March 23, 2009 – Artwork
created by people with disabilities will
be on display from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April
6 at the Hattie Larlham Center for Excellence.
Tours for schools and organizations will
be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The works were created
in the Hattie Larlham Creative Arts program.
Professional artists, called trackers, work
with more than 70 people with mental retardation
and developmental disabilities to create
paintings, pottery and poetry.
Trackers use several
specialized techniques and a series of yes
or no questions to interpret arts’
thoughts, many of whom do not have the use
of their arms and legs, to create masterful
show pieces.
Paintings have been
on display in University Hospitals, Standing
Rock Cultural Arts and Legend Financial
Group, Ltd.
