Center for Excellence (facility
name): Your gift will ensure state-of-the-art,
high quality care for our children and young
adults with disabilities for years to come.
The entire facility will be renovated and
updated. An addition will include the construction
of a new living unit designed to accommodate
the increasing number of technology-dependent
infants, children, and adolescents in need
of our care. A multipurpose center will
be added to the existing facility so that
we can offer primary care and outpatient
services to individuals and families whose
lives are affected by disabilities. The
Center for Excellence will also be home
to a resource library and an on-campus center
for early childhood intervention.

Technology Unit:
Your gift will develop a specialized
technology unit which will enable us to
meet the daily medical, developmental, emotional,
social, and educational needs of technology-dependent
and medically fragile children and young
adults.

access so that in life-threatening situations,
we can safely and quickly transport medically
fragile residents to hospitals across the

Facility Upgrade
Renovated and
Updated Residential Wings: Your
gift will greatly increase the quality of
life for children and young adults with
respiratory conditions and other medically
fragile conditions. Main emphasis will be
placed on installing a new HVAC system to
improve the air quality focusing on humidity,
temperature and purity, along with providing
updated flooring designed to inhibit bacterial
growth. The décor of the residential
wings will provide sensory stimulation through
color designed around a nature theme.

Children’s
Room Sponsor: By sponsoring a room
for four children your gift will provide
the space and equipment needed to provide
for their individuals medical, nursing and
habilitation needs while enhancing their
quality of life.

Beds: Replacing
seriously outdated beds are a top priority
at Hattie Larlham. Our current beds are
antiquated and provide challenges to the
care givers responsible for moving or adjusting
the children and young adults in our care.
We have secured a manufacturer who has a
bed specifically designed for residents
who are mentally retarded and developmentally
disabled. The bed has a unique system to
prevent pressure sores and has side rails
that are designed specifically to protect
without risk of entrapment. Furthermore,
the beds are easily raised and lowered for
proper positioning of patients with severe
neuromuscular impairments, to limit the
spread of infections and to allow our staff
to transfer our individuals safely.

Respite Care Rooms:
Your gift will allow short-term care space
to be provided for children and young adults
with disabilities who live at home with
their families. This will allow their parents
and caregivers an opportunity to rest and
recharge with the peace of mind of knowing
their son or daughter is at Hattie Larlham.
Primary care and recreational activities
will be available during the stay.

Two renovated respite care rooms with one

Sensory Room (located
in residential area): A special
multisensory room which will house a variety
of lights, sounds, textures and tactile
experiences designed to calm and soothe
children and young adults with disabilities
throughout all the senses. Calming activities
and experiences are used to support behaviors
of children with sensory and/or neurological
impairments. Items in the room will be switch
activated so they can enjoy in pleasurable
and stimulating experiences.

Family Suite:
A gift for the family suite provides a place
of comfort and respite for families traveling
from out of town to visit with their child.
The family suite allows for family time
in a private, residential, home-like environment.

Orientation Conference
Room: Your gift will provide a
gathering place for visitors, tour groups,
and new Hattie Larlham employees. The room
will also serve as a meeting place for conferences,
families, interdisciplinary team meetings
and staff meetings.

chapel for the spiritual enrichment of our
residents and their families.

The Life Achievement Center
Outpatient Care
Center: Your gift will make available
versatile space where a menu of outpatient
and primary care services will be offered—physical,
occupational, and speech therapy as well
as primary medical care and specialty care
including dental and services that are in
short supply for children and young adults
with disabilities.

Therapy Pool:
Your gift will provide both recreational
and therapeutic use. In addition to the
element of fun, many of our children and
young adults have tight muscle conditions
that relax when in the pool. Strengthening
and range of motion exercises will be a
plus.

Dental Clinic:
Your gift will provide the space and equipment
for a specially designed dental clinic for
children and adults with disabilities. This
clinic will offer services that are much
needed, but very difficult to access, and
delivered by dentists specializing in n
treating the unique needs of this population.

Outpatient Exam
Rooms: Your gift will provide for
exam rooms located in the Outpatient Care
Center to allow state-of-the-art medical,
dental and therapy services to be provided
by medical experts, providing important
care that is in short supply for individuals
with disabilities.

Resource Library:
This library features developmentally appropriate
toys specially adapted so children with
disabilities can experience the joy of playing.
Like a library, people in the community
can borrow these items on a trial basis,
and can expand the play opportunities for
their children without incurring the cost
of purchase. Strollers and car seats are
also available for lending. Families and
caregivers will also have the ability to
access reference materials and resource
information as well as utilize the internet
to for links to research, medical/professional
journals and advocacy information.

Small Therapy
Treatment Room: Free from distraction,
people will receive the services of expert
therapists in a private room while their
privacy and dignity are protected. Your
gift will make this possible.

Therapy Workshop:
Your gift for the workshop will allow for
on site repairs of wheelchairs and mobility
equipment as well as the creation of customized
positioning equipment that gently stretches
muscles, provides comfort and prevents complications.

for the reception lobby will welcome all
who enter and convey that comfort, joy and
achievement can be realized here.

Courtyard:
This wonderful enclosed courtyard provides
visitors to the Life Achievement Center
with an oasis of sensory-rich sights and
sounds. The garden includes a variety of
colorful and seasonal plants and trees.
The fountain provides the soft sounds of

experience. Your gift will provide parents
with a safe outdoor space where they know
their children can explore the lush garden
while they wait for their visit their doctor
or therapist.

Area: A gift for the snack/vending
area will provide refreshing and wholesome
snacks to enhance the experience of those
utilizing the wide array of services available.

Outpatient Family
Waiting Area: Your gift for this
area will provide a comfortable space for
parents and children while they are waiting
for their appointment with the physician,
dentist or therapist.

Desk: This beautiful tile inlayed
desk provides a warm and welcoming experience
for all visitors. From here families can
access The Play Center, Toy Lending Library,
Outpatient area, or main Hattie Larlham
facility. Your gift will allow this check-in

that allows for easy family check-in making
each visit as stress free as possible.

Play Center:
Your gift will create a specially designed
integrated play space providing developmentally
appropriate play experiences in an all inclusive,
universally accessible environment for children
from birth through school age. Your gift
will contribute to the development of social
skills, communication, creativity, problem
solving and recreation for children with
developmental disabilities, physical disabilities
and autism spectrum disorders and typically
developing children.

them. Music and dance combines sensory,
fine motor, gross motor and cognitive experiences.

musical instruments and equipment for use
in free play, group activities, and sensory

Pretend Play is paramount in the life of
a child, it is where they explore all the
roles that we have in our lives. Your gift
will provide a wealth of pretend play props
and toys to help children create and enter
the imaginary world of their dreams.

opportunities to sort, manipulate, count
and build. Your gift will provide a rich
mix of puzzles, block, and other manipulatives
that children can use to develop problem

Fiber Optic Ceiling: Everyone loves
looking at the stars! Your gift will help
us bring the stars into our sensory room

children after they play. The projector
includes a numerous, interchangeable visual
wheels that staff can change to provide
