Hattie
Larlham received the Outstanding Community
Partner Recognition, an annual award given
by Kent State University.
Kent State gives the award
to organizations that provide students with
meaningful learning experiences.
Throughout the past two
years, Kent students have volunteered more
than 1,000 hours at Hattie Larlham.
“They’re such
great kids,” Ericka Abram, Hattie
Larlham volunteer specialist, said of the
dozens of Kent State volunteers. “They
do all the little things that mean so much
to us.”
The students have helped
paint rooms in the Hattie Larlham community
homes. Some have helped plan parties and
bought decorations. Eight students even
cooked up a university bake sale that raised
more than $700.
“We have a great
working relationship with Kent State,”
volunteer coordinator Jenna Allen said.
“And we’re honored that they
are giving us this award.”
The award ceremony, Making
a Difference: Recognizing Kent Staters Who
Care, was held April 21, 2008, at the Kent
State Student Center. Hattie Larlham was
one of the two organizations honored. |
