H1N1 Flu
and Visiting
Hattie Larlham
As of the morning of June
3, 2009, there are approximately 1,100 confirmed
cases of the H1N1 flu virus in the United
States. To date, there have been 17 confirmed
deaths from the virus. In Ohio, there are
presently 29 confirmed cases of the H1N1
flu.
The number of cases continues
to be on the rise. To combat the H1N1 flu
virus, Hattie Larlham is implementing the
following recommendations to prevent the
potential spread of infection.
Visitors or volunteers
with respiratory illnesses and/or symptoms
of the flu such as fever, cough, sore throat
associated with body aches, headache, chills,
fatigue, diarrhea and/or vomiting should
not visit Hattie Larlham.
Hattie Larlham medical
staff has removed travel to Mexico or contact
with a known case of H1N1 as criteria for
exclusion from visitation. Hattie Larlham
will, however, continue to screen visitors
for the presence of flu-like symptoms and
exclude them for the building, especially
if they will have direct contact with the
residents. This practice will prevent unnecessary
illnesses from entering the building.
Presently, Hattie Larlham
is vigilantly screening staff and essential
visitors.
Generally, colds and flus last about five
days and contagiousness diminishes greatly
after these five days. Visitors and volunteers
are asked not to come to Hattie Larlham
until they are symptom free for at least
one day.
Hattie Larlham medical
and administrative staff is asking for your
full cooperation in maintaining the established
H1N1 precautions. Hattie Larlham will continue
to evaluate the situation and provide updates
as needed. Hattie Larlham medical staff
will continue communication with the Ohio
Department of Health and the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to
monitor changes in the number of cases nationally
and locally. |
