Advisory Board
The Hattie Larlham Research
Advisory Board was created in 2008 to promote
research and clinical studies to promote
the health and wellbeing of children and
adults with disabilities.
Richard I. Grossberg, M.D.
Medical Director,
Hattie Larlham
Richard
I. Grossberg, MD, has been the medical director
of the Hattie Larlham Center for Children
with Disabilities since 1999. He graduated
from Hahnemann University School of Medicine
in Philadelphia. He completed his residency
in pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children’s
Hospital in Cleveland where he received
a clinical excellence award for the care
of sick newborns. He is an assistant clinical
professor of pediatrics at Case Western
Reserve University School of Medicine in
Cleveland.
Dr. Grossberg is responsible
for providing routine medical care and coordinating
specialty care for the children and young
adults at Hattie Larlham. He is also responsible
for overseeing medical services and research
programs. Dr. Grossberg is board certified
in pediatrics and is a fellow of the American
Academy of Pediatrics. He is also a candidate
in adult psychoanalytic training at the
Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center. He lives
in Auburn, Ohio, with his wife Beth and
children Emma, Ethan and Lily.
Dennis C. Russo, Ph.D., ABPP
Chief Clinical
Officer, The May Institute, Inc.
Dennis
Russo, Ph.D., ABPP, is the chief clinical
officer of the May Institute and is responsible
for supervising the May Institute’s
new program development, clinical services
and research. He has held previous positions
as associate professor of psychology at
the Harvard Medical School and director
of behavioral medicine at Children’s
Hospital in Boston. He is on the Faculties
of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the Johns
Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr, Russo is board certified
in behavioral psychology by the American
Board of Professional Psychology and in
behavior therapy by the American Board of
Behavioral Psychology. Dr. Russo was recently
awarded the Lee Salk Distinguished Service
Award for Outstanding Contributions to Pediatric
Psychology from the Division of Pediatric
Psychology of the American Psychological
Association.
Carolyn Green, M.D.
Pediatric Neurologist,
Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital
Carolyn Green, MD, is
a child neurologist with a special interest
in children who have, or are at risk for,
developmental delays and disabilities and
especially interested in children with complex
health needs who require five or more specialists.
Dr. Green served on the
board of United Cerebral Palsy until last
year and as the physician representative
to the Help Me Grow advisory council. She
participates on the advocacy committee and
program for children with complex care needs
at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
Phil Rumrill, Ph.D., CRC
Professor,
Kent State University
Director, Center for Disabilities Studies
Phillip
Rumrill, Ph.D., CRC, is a professor of rehabilitation
counseling and director of the Center for
Disability Studies at Kent State University.
Dr. Rumrill received his bachelor’s
and master’s degrees from Keene State
College in New Hampshire and his doctorate
from the University of Arkansas.
Dr. Rumrill has held management
roles on 24 federal and private foundation
grants whose total budgets exceed $12 million.
He is a frequent presenter at national and
international conferences in health care,
rehabilitation and education and he has
received honors and recognition for his
work from such organizations as the National
Association of Student Personnel Administrators,
the National TRIO Foundation, Ohio State
University, the University of Hawaii, the
National Federation of the Blind and the
Arla Institute of Finland.
In 2005, Dr. Rumrill was
named Rehabilitation Researcher of the Year
by the National Council on Rehabilitation
Education.
Ronald Savage, Ed.D.
Consultant
Dr.
Ronald Savage has worked with children,
adolescents and young adults with traumatic
brain injuries, autism/PDD and other neuro-developmental
disorders for more 35 years. Presently,
Dr. Savage is executive vice president for
the North American Brain Injury Society
(NABIS) and vice president and partner at
Lash and Associates Publishing & Training.
Dr. Savage is also program consultant to
The George Washington University graduate
program in traumatic brain injury and editor
of the Brain Injury Professional.
Dr. Savage is the former
executive vice president of the Bancroft
Neurosciences Institute in New Jersey, the
former senior vice president of Behavioral
Health and Rehabilitative Services at the
May Institute in Massachusetts and the former
executive director of Clinical Services
for Rehabilitation Services of New York.
David L. Holmes Ph.D.
Chairman and
CEO, Lifespan Services for Autism, LLC
Dr.
David L. Holmes is board certified in forensic
science, behavioral science and psychology.
He is a certified/licensed chief school
administrator, supervisor, principal and
teacher. He is the past president and founder
of the Eden Family of Services and the longest
standing chairman of the Panel of Professional
Advisors of the Autism Society of America.
He has served on the faculties
of numerous universities and most recently
on the psychology faculty at Princeton University.
He has been a featured guest on many TV
and radio shows, including National Public
Radio’s “Talk of the Nation”
and CNN’s “House Call”.
Dr. Holmes now serves as a Fellow to the
32nd Federal Institute on Rehabilitation
Issues (IRI) in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Holmes is currently
the chairman and CEO of Lifespan Services,
LLC—a full-service consulting company
established to help families and individuals
with autism and related disabilities. Lifespan
Services has offices in Princeton, New Jersey
and Naples, Florida.
Dr. Holmes is the host
of the National radio show, “Adults
on the Autism Spectrum Today!”
Al Condeluci, Ph.D.
Chief Executive
Officer, United Cerebral Palsy of Pittsburgh
Dr.
Al Condeluci has been an advocate and catalyst
for building community capacities and understanding
culture since 1970. A lifelong resident
of Pittsburgh, Dr. Condeluci received his
bachelor’s degree in psychology from
Youngstown State University and his master’s
in social work and his doctorate in education
from the University of Pittsburgh.
Since 1973, he has worked
as an attendant, caseworker, advocate, planner,
program director and, now, CEO of his organization,
UCP/CLASS of Pittsburgh. UCP/CLASS is the
third largest disability-specific agency
in southwestern Pennsylvania.
Dr. Condeluci is associated with the University
of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work
and School of Health and Rehabilitation
Science and Robert Morris University Graduate
School of Business. In these academic roles
Dr. Condeluci teaches and supervises students
and serves as advisor and consultant.
Along with his professional
activities, Dr. Condeluci is involved in
a variety of civic volunteer roles. He is
on the board of the United Way of Southwestern
Pennsylvania, member of the Southwest Pennsylvania
Partnership for Aging board of directors
and the past chairman of the Pennsylvania
Statewide Traumatic Brain Injury advisory
board.
Samuel J. Horwitz, M.D.
Retired
Samuel J. Horwitz, MD,
a pediatric neurologist, graduated from
the School of Medicine, University of Cape
Town. He is the former chief of the Division
of Pediatric Neurology at Rainbow Babies
and Children's Hospital and Professor Emeritus
of Pediatrics and Neurology at Case Western
Reserve University.
Roberta DePompei, Ph.D.
Professor, University of Akron
and Director, department of Speech Pathology
and Audiology
Roberta
DePompei, Ph.D. is a distinguished professor
and director of the School of Speech-Language
Pathology at the University of Akron. Her
major area of research and interest is in
cognitive and communicative challenges for
people with brain injuries, specializing
in the effect of brain injury has on speech,
language, communication and learning.
Dr. DePompei is on numerous national task
forces and committees, as well as co-chair
of the Special Interest Group on Children
and Adolescents with Brain Injuries for
the Brain Injury Association of America.
Widely published and a national and international
presenter, Dr DePompei is recognized for
her unique and innovative approaches for
functional community inclusion. She was
awarded the prestigious Sheldon Berrol,
M.D. Clinical Service award by BIAA in 2002.
She also received the Robert L. Moody Prize
for Distinguished Initiatives in Brain Injury
Research and Rehabilitation in 2004 and
was made a Fellow of the American Speech-Language
Hearing Association in 2006.
Margaret C. McBride, M.D.

After
earning her Doctor of Medicine degree at
Case Western Reserve University, McBride
completed her pediatric residency at the
University of Rochester’s Strong Memorial
Hospital and then she completed her child
neurology residency at the Boston University
School of Medicine. She has been providing
consultative services in child neurology
for more than 27 years.
