Hattie Larlham is working to raise money with donor support to purchase new supplies and equipment that will improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities. The most beneficial and useful gifts are outlined below.
P.D. Vest Machines: These devices help people with complicated medical conditions breathe more easily. By vibrating a patient’s chest wall from the outside, the P.D. vest machine helps break up and move obstructions out of airways. This device is used daily by multiple children and adults with disabilities. (Cost: $9,500 each)

Tub: Non-ambulatory people with disabilities require special bathtubs. These tubs can be raised or lowered and have sides that can be raised for safe bathing. (Cost: $8,500)
Pool Room Trolley Tub: A tub in the pool room will enable people with disabilities to be bathed after a swim. The trolley tub can be raised and lowered to safely accommodate non-ambulatory people with disabilities. (Cost: $8,500)
P.D. Vest Wrap Style Washable Cover: Together with the P.D. vest machine, this device helps children and adults with complicated medical conditions breathe more easily. The vest wraps around a patient’s chest and vibrates to break up and move airway secretions. The vest has an internal bladder that inflates and an external cover that can be machine washed and dried. (Cost: $8,480)
Volker Beds: The Volker bed’s heads and feet adjust to match the contours of people with disabilities. The beds have a patented mattress system that helps reduce pressure sores and skin breakdown. While the beds are mechanical, they have wood frames that keep the beds looking homelike.

Hoyer Slings: Hattie Larlham staff use these mechanical lifts to safely move people with disabilities. (Cost: $1,350)
I.V. Poles: Many of the children and adults at Hattie Larlham receive food, fluids and medication through a tube. These mobile poles help Hattie Larlham staff provide necessary medical care and treatment to people with disabilities. (Cost: $980)
VPAP S: Some of the children and adults with disabilities have a hard time breathing in their sleep because of complicated medical conditions. The VPAP S helps those with obstructive sleep apnea and respiratory distress comfortably sleep through the night. (Cost: $950)
Toys and Activity Supplies: Due to their use and enjoyment, toys and activity supplies need to be replaced every year. Play is an important part of programs like the autism preschool, The Play Center and camps. The toys at Hattie Larlham are adapted or modified so they may be enjoyed by children with disabilities. Providing children with disabilities new toys in good working condition is critical to the success of the programs they attend. (Cost: $910)
Privacy Screens: These mobile and adjustable partitions provide privacy during the personal care of people with disabilities. (Cost: $900)
High-Flow Oxygen Heated Systems: This respiratory equipment effectively supports and comforts people with disabilities in severe respiratory distress. The system is used by patients requiring more than 15 liters per minute of oxygen. (Cost: $700)
Ear and Finger Oximeter Probes: These devices connect to pulse oximeters to measure and monitor a patient’s oxygen level. Ear and finger oximeters are used daily throughout Hattie Larlham to monitor the health of the people in its care. (Cost: Ear Oximeter $630, Finger Oximeter $330)
