Hattie Larlham Summer Camp for Children with Disabilities

Connect with Movement and Play Camp is designed for Northeast Ohio children with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing issues and motor planning or movement disabilities. The curriculum facilitates fun, social learning opportunities that enhance self esteem in a structured and safe atmosphere.

Connect with Movement and Play Camp includes structured art, craft and music activities as well as a wealth of self-directed sensory and play experiences. Each camper will have the opportunity to explore movement through activities that help develop large-muscle and fine-motor skills. Afternoon activities include experience stations that give campers a chance to explore and choose sensory input that they enjoy.

Daily activities include both indoor and outdoor play. Summer campers will be able to take advantage of The Play Center at Hattie Larlham as well as the Sensory Playground located on the grounds of the facility. Campers are encouraged to practice their skills riding bikes, playing basketball or swinging indoors on the accessible outdoor sensory playground. Inflatables will be used for outside water play or indoors for large muscle activities.

At Connect with Movement and Play Camp, attendees get to swim in the indoor heated swimming pool each week. Staff encourages summer campers to feel comfortable and independent in the water or use floating devices as needed. The camper-to-staff ratio leads to a safe and secure environment. Connect with Movement and Play Camp attendees will learn, grow, make friends and have lots of fun in this summer camp environment.

Connect with Movement and Play Camp summer campers are asked to bring a lunch, a change of clothes and swimsuits each camp day. Hattie Larlham is a secure facility and campers must be signed in and out by a parent, guardian or designated adult.

Hattie Larlham requires summer camp attendees complete and return a registration form (PDF). Hattie Larlham staff encourages parents to bring interested campers in for a tour and interview.

Connect with Movement and Play Summer Camp Hours

Connect with Movement and Play Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A pre-camp and post-camp is available for parents who need to drop off their children early or pick them up later than the scheduled camp times. Connect with Movement and Play Camp pre-camp hours are 6:30 to 9 a.m. Post-camp hours are 3 to 5 p.m.
