Sensory Adventure Day

A Hattie Larlham Activity Day for Children with Disabilities

Sensory Adventure Day provides children the opportunity to explore different play experiences designed to promote sensory stimulation. The focus of Sensory Adventure Day is child-directed activity with adult involvement for support and encouragement.

Each week takes participants through a variety of sensory experiences focused around a central theme like the ocean, space, carnival, animals and the seasons.

The schedule includes a morning of sensory exploration followed by lunch, time in the pool and rest time. Each day finishes with a group activity. Children are provided support for each sensory experience, pool time and group activity. In between group activities, children can explore activity stations that include:

  • Obstacle Course
  • Activity Swing
  • Silly Pool
  • Sensory Activity
  • Sensory Snack
  • Sensory Craft
  • Bubbles

Sensory Adventure Day is for children ages 2 to 7 with sensory processing issues including, but not limited to, autism spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, Down syndrome or dysfunction of sensory integration as well as typically developing children.

A parent or guardian must attend with any child under 3 years of age.

Sensory Adventure Day attendees are asked to bring a lunch, change of clothes and swimsuit each camp day. Hattie Larlham is a secure facility and campers must be signed in and out by a parent, guardian or designated adult.
