What is a 501(c)(3)
organization?
501(C)(3) is a section in tax law that grants
exemption from federal income tax to non-profit
organizations. 501(c)(3) status applies
to organizations operated exclusively for
religious, charitable, scientific and testing
for public safety purposes. This status
is important to non-profit organizations
because some individuals, groups and foundations
will not donate to a charity if it does
not have 501(c)(3) status. Therefore, loss
of this status can be harmful to a charity's
existence.
