New Hattie's
Cafe & Gifts Opens in Canal Place
On April 27, 2009, a
new Hattie’s Café & Gifts
opened in Canal Place in Akron, Ohio.
The April opening is the
first of a two-phase opening plan. The first
phase is currently open for business from
7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
During this first phase, the café
will offer a limited grab and go menu. This
limited menu includes sandwiches, soups
and salads as well as a brown-bag lunch
option. All of the food at the café
is made fresh daily.
During the first phase
renovation, service will take place in the
former seating area. This will allow work
to continue on the café.
The second phase, due
to open in July, will expand the café’s
services to include grilled Panini sandwiches,
old-fashioned soda fountain fare, milkshakes,
smoothies, fair-trade coffee, fresh-baked
cookies, pizza, burgers and cereal and salad
bars.
Like the other Hattie’s
Café & Gifts, the Canal Place
locations will provide important vocational
training for adults with disabilities. This
opening marks the fifth Hattie’s Café
& Gifts to open in northeast Ohio since
the first café opened in Hudson.
The new café is
located on the fifth floor or Canal Place,
where the Ole’ Main Café was
formerly located.
