Constant Companions is Hattie Larlham's adult day support program in Northeast Ohio offering six convenient locations to choose from.
At Constant Companions, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities enjoy opportunities to participate in a wide variety of activities, community outings, and volunteer projects.
Community inclusion and involvement
Community inclusion and involvement are a unique focus of our Constant Companions program and what make it appealing to those who attend. Program participants look forward to daily trips to restaurants, shopping centers, recreation facilities, fitness centers, museums, parks, and so much more.
Some fan-favorite destinations include:
- YMCAs
- The Rocksino
- Zoos
- Local metro parks
- Rubber City Harley Davidson
- Majestic Meadows Alpacas
- Larry’s Stables
- MAPs Air Museum
- Rubber Ducks baseball games
- local art studios
Thanks to a generous grant from the Ohio Arts Council, our friends at Barberton Constant Companions were able to partake in a pottery painting experience at GiGi's Ceramics. The guided classes allowed participants to learn to use different types of paint on ceramics and hone their skills.
Volunteerism
Volunteerism is also a large part of the Constant Companions experience. Participants take part in civic programs and give back to the community. Organizations and volunteer projects we've participated in include:
- The Salvation Army bell ringers
- One of a Kind Pets
- Canton Jaycees
- local food banks
- Good Neighbors
- local senior centers & nursing homes
Civic Engagement
Civic Engagement is another way Constant Companions participants enjoy interacting with their communities. They're offered opportunities to connect with city council members and mayors to discuss issues important to those served. It's always a fun day when the Mayor stops by for a Q&A session.
Participants also enjoy connecting with the first responders in their area and regularly visit police and fire stations to thank those who work there with treats and handmade cards.
Hobbies and Interests
Hobbies and Interests are an important part of personal growth. At Constant Companions, we know each individual has their own unique interests, which is why we help connect them to resources and learning opportunities that support those passions.
If someone isn't sure what they like, we help them explore hobbies and interests until they find something great! Particularly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, when outside attractions and trips weren't accessible, hobby exploration has been a favorite activity among participants.
Recent discoveries have included: learning to care for plants and starting gardens, creating websites, art classes, pottery and creative writing.
In-person and virtual tours are available upon request! Please call the location of your choosing below to learn more.
