The Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities is home to the most medically fragile babies, children and adults Hattie Larlham serves. Respiratory issues are the number one danger to those in our care. On March 27 and 28, we asked our supporters to give to our 48-hour Flash Fund to raise funds for respiratory alert systems.

A special thank you to our anonymous donor who matched all Flash Fund donations dollar-for-dollar up to $3,000.

Why these monitors are needed:

• Benefits all residents – While daily use of the monitors is most beneficial for residents with trachs, every Center resident will benefit from our ability to monitor and track respiratory function.
• Long-term monitoring capabilities – Features of the monitor allow us to record and track breathing patterns in our youngest residents in the pediatric ventilator program, who are in important developmental stages. The features also help with early detection of serious breathing issues that can slow down their progression or even signal danger.
• Allows more efficient use of staff and time – Some residents require bed checks as often as every 15 seconds to ensure they are breathing correctly. Use of the these monitors will allow staff to increase the time between bed checks. With so many children with complex needs, this allows staff to spend more time with every resident.
