Hattie Larlham honors Kotkowski Family of Lakeside Sand & Gravel at Circle of Caring, raises $150k

On Sat., Oct. 20, nearly 200 people gathered to honor the Kotkowski family of Lakeside Sand & Gravel in Mantua, Ohio at Hattie Larlham’s 2018 Rudolph H. Garfield Circle of Caring. The organization’s marquee fundraiser took place at Signature of Solon and was presented by The Alpha Group . Hosted by WKYC-TV Channel 3 Chief Meteorologist Betsy Kling, the event raised more than $150,000 to support programs and services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Longtime neighbors of the Hattie Larlham Center for Children with Disabilities in Mantua, the Kotkowskis and their family-owned company have been generous supporters of the organization for more than 50 years. Owner Ron Kotkowski currently serves on the Hattie Larlham Board of Directors. Lakeside Sand & Gravel hosts an annual Open House with all proceeds benefitting Hattie Larlham. And four Kotkowski family members worked at the Mantua campus during their high school years.

“It was an extreme honor to recognize the Kotkowski family at this year’s Circle of Caring,” said Hattie Larlham CEO Stephen Colecchi. “Three generations of this family have stayed involved with our organization for decades through personal giving, corporate sponsorship, and third-party fundraising events. The Kotkowski family and Lakeside Sand & Gravel have helped Hattie Larlham grow and thrive since the very beginning and we couldn’t ask for better neighbors.”

The Circle of Caring featured VIP and cocktail receptions hosted by the 2017 Circle of Caring honoree Dr. Rich Grossberg and his wife Beth Schwartz-Grossberg. Live jazz and acoustic music set a festive mood thanks to Klein’s Fine Times and Charles and Kaitlin Klein. Guests also enjoyed an array of food stations, a wine pull, fundraising games and special signature cocktails and bourbon tastings courtesy of Cleveland Whiskey. Hattie Larlham welcomed back Auctioneer Rob Telecky to host the live and Fund a Need auctions.

For the 2018 Fund a Need auction, guests raised their paddles to bid and support the growth of Hattie Larlham’s community engagement initiatives, including Constant Companions, Addventures, resident trips and outings, and work training programs. These programs create opportunities for people with disabilities to explore their community, interact with the world around them and discover what it means to be a good neighbor.

“We are so grateful to those who continue to support this event each year and we were very happy to welcome some new guests to the 2018 Circle of Caring,” said Hattie Larlham Development Officer Wendy Voelker. “Hattie Larlham is truly appreciative of those who see our need and respond, whether with an opportunity to get involved, financial support, or just being a friend to someone we serve.”
